What Is Soul Growth Coaching?

The Richness of Silence

We live in a world that is full of stimulation and distraction, opinion and conflict.

What many of us need is to slow down, switch off, and spend some time within. We know that this is not as easy as it sounds.

A session of Soul Growth Coaching is a refuge where you can leave the chaos of the outside world and sit in a space of safety, silence, and reflection.

It is very rare in our world to have someone simply listen to your story, without offering an opinion or jumping into their own narrative.

The deep listening that takes place in this work offers you that opportunity – the chance to be heard.

As you hear yourself unpack and reflect on the elements of your life experience, you will be pleasantly surprised at the depth of your own wisdom and at the healing power of sharing your story.

Invariably, there is a clarity that comes with being held in this space of contemplative reflection – a true gift to yourself.

A Spiritual Community of Two

Were you raised with beliefs that you have outgrown? Does it feel like religious institutions no longer meet your needs?

Over 25% of Americans identify as “Spiritual but not Religious,” meaning that you are not alone in your desire to be a spiritual being on a unique path.

It is not necessary to attach oneself to an institution to have a spiritual life, but it is very helpful to have support – a community that holds you in your pain, supports you in your exploration, and challenges you to grow. When you and I come together, a community is created – one that is uniquely tailored to your needs and desires.

Connecting with Your True Self

Individuation is the process of returning to our True Self, a reconnecting with our Divine nature, our Buddha within.

As you begin to shine the light of awareness on your experience, wonderful and miraculous things will begin to happen – and transformation is inevitable.

As a tree naturally grows toward the sun, your soul knows the way to wholeness.

Developing Your Own Tools

For most of us, this is uncharted territory.

If we knew where to go and how to get there, we’d be there already!

This work is about learning to connect with your Inner Authority, your intuitive sense of what is correct for you.

My favorite tools for developing self-awareness are the Enneagram, Soul Contract, Dreamwork, and the Tarot.

If you are interested in looking at your process through any or all these lenses, we will fold these disciplines organically into our work together. You will be amazed at the insights that come.

You may find that you are interested in learning silent meditation or in cultivating awareness of your energy body through Qigong. You may want to begin to keep a journal, or to knock the dust off that old guitar and write some songs.

There are forms of creative expression and spiritual exploration that are perfect for you.

In our work together, you will be encouraged to seek these out and explore what they have to teach you, about who you are and the hidden gifts you possess.

The Support of Accountability

This work creates a sacred container that extends beyond our sessions together.

Part of the work of growth is simply knowing that there is someone aware of and interested in your process.

Knowing that in our next session, I will ask you about your meditation practice just might be enough to help you get through the challenges that regular practice presents.

We all need accountability, because life is full and distractions are plentiful. No one needs to do this alone, and neither do you.

About Me

The traditional name for my work is Spiritual Direction. This term dates back many centuries. During that time, the practice has evolved.

Spiritual directors typically do not do much “directing” – particularly those like me who use a non-directive, interfaith approach.

I don’t tell people what to think, what to believe, how they are supposed to feel, or what to do in any specific circumstance.

Rather than offering easy answers or quick solutions, this process focuses on the challenging questions our lives present and helps us make inspired and soulful discernments, supported by a compassionate companion.

I do this work because it fills my cup. It is my purpose, my passion, and my unique gift.

I do this work because it is the best way I know to create the kind of world I want to live in, the kind of world I want my daughter to live in. A world that prioritizes presence in our productivity, patience in our use of power, and love and compassion in the face of fear.

I came to this work by a circuitous route. When I was young, I wanted to be a rock-star and made music my priority and my passion.

Then I fell I love with the art of film and got a degree in cinematography, working in the Northern California film industry for over a decade.

In all that busyness, I became a husband and a father. And, with the birth of my daughter, something unexpected happened. I learned what love really means.

Seeing her come into the world inspired me to reimagine my own life, to reach for dreams I had not known I had.

I left my secure, well-established career as a filmmaker to begin a life of service, this time as a practitioner of the healing arts.

There is no such thing as a license in Spiritual Direction. What can be obtained is a certification – and I have not one, but two such certifications.

These certifications were obtained from the Chaplaincy Institute in Berkeley, CA, which teaches an interfaith approach to spiritual direction, and from the Haden Institute in Asheville, NC, which teaches a Jungian style.

I am a certified teacher of Radiant Heart Qigong and have taught hundreds of classes in this moving meditative form. I have been reading the Tarot for over 15 years and find it to be indispensable in times of change and transformation.

Additionally, I am a certified EFT practitioner and am trained in reading Soul Contracts, projective Dream Interpretation, and Akashic Records.

All these trainings would mean nothing without my own personal investment in the work. I would not invite you to walk a path that I myself had not been down.

I can help you, not only because of my training and knowledge, but because I have been there. I have been through the darkness and found the light again. I have experienced what true transformation feels like because I have lived it. I invite you to do the same.
